paukste:

I was looking forward to visiting the Gallery of Contemporary Art and my excitement was not in vain. Even if my education in Arts is not the best, I do have rather high requirements. I happen to have a particular dislike towards pretentious “art” that screams for the sake of screaming. This sort of “art” is harmful to the reputation of Modern Art and it is always disappointing to see it displayed where quality content should be placed. That is why I approach Modern Art exhibits with caution.

To my great liking The MOCAK Gallery did select their exhibits with care. There were quite a lot of powerful pieces of art, all done by skilful and talented artists. One of the most interesting installations was the Mocak Collection. It was visually provocative, yet tasteful and skilfully done. The black goo and the melting human body created chilling atmosphere which was enhanced by the robotic, anthropomorphic raven that spoke. We named it Satan, because it was that creepy.  It was legitimately disturbing and well done installation.

Generally, the exhibits deal with dark and slightly morbid subjects. The Third Reich and death are among them. Yet more light-hearted pieces can be found upon entering the gallery.

I do recommend to visit the Mocak Gallery (prefferably on a Tuesday, since admission is free)

‘Cmentarz Remu’ – reż. Edward Etler, muzyka Krzysztof Komeda.  Film dokumentalny z 1961 r. Są to reminiscencje losów narodu żydowskiego, osnute na tle starej bożnicy i cmentarza Remu w Krakowie.
