When I was still very little my parents took me to the Wawel Castle for a tour; I don’t remember much about it, I was probably too young, but one thing I DO remember are the Jagiellonian tapestries. I remember how enigmatic and fascinating the animals portrayed on them seemed to me back then and how strongly it affected my sense of esthetics.
The one on the picture is my favorite. Those two fighting monsters still make my skin crawl, even though my childhood is long gone. When I was little I used to imagine that those creatures really existed in the XIV century, just as the artist captured them. Maybe they did and we just forgot?
(Actually one of them is a panther, but when I was a kid I was sure it’s a monster. Everything seems so much more surrealistic when you are small :))
Aren’t they wonderful?
