The Trumpeter of Kraków
Visiting churches doesn’t usually top the list of our favorite things to do in a new city, especially when time is ultra-limited (when is it not?), but a rainy day encouraged us to visit St. Mary’s Basilica in Kraków today and HOLY SH*T. The inside of this church is like a geode. It might be the most spectacular inner sanctuary ever created on the planet.
The church itself was built in the THIRTEENTH century! Over 40 feet tall and 36 feet wide, this wooden triptych carved from oak is the biggest Gothic altarpiece in the world and rightfully Poland’s national treasure. During German occupation it was kidnapped by the Third Reich and thank goodness was recovered unscathed from the heavily bombed Nuremberg Castle after the war. It’s reason enough to visit Kraków (if the pierogis don’t bring you first).
Second best part about this church is that a trumpeter plays a song every hour and ends abruptly mid-blow to commemorate the original Trumpeter of Kraków shot in the throat (also in the 13th century) while sounding the alarm before the Mongol attack on the city. They never get sick of it—it’s broadcast on Polish National Radio every hour, every day of the year.

Hello Krakow =)
I was sad to say goodbye to Prague but I will be back and I’m excited to explore Poland! I arrived in Krakow at 8 in the morning and couldn’t check into my hostel until 1pm. So I dropped my suitcase off and thought, my backpack’s not that bad, I’ll just carry it with me. Big mistake, it was way heavier than it looked.
Most people that come to Krakow also book a trip to Auschwitz. I opted out of that one, too emotional for me and I don’t really like that it’s a major tourist attraction. My hostel is right in the city center so it is very easy to get anywhere really, no public transportation necessary for this city. I explored St. Mary’s church and Wawel castle. And more churches. And even more. You know how I said that the Czech Republic had a pub on every corner? Well it’s like that here except with churches instead of pubs. And there’s nuns and priests just walking down the street all of the time.
And you know what’s also great about my hostel? They give you free dinner! A soup and a main course. Great deal! And I went on a pub crawl with sangria before hand. Don’t worry, I didn’t go alone, it was run by the hostel and I went with two Welsh girls who are also staying in my room. Along with heaps of people from the hostel. Krakow is a pretty awesome city! Oh and amidst the charm of Old Town, there is a Hard Rock Cafe. Doesn’t really fit in.

- Tradycyjny Bukiet Zielny
- Bukiet Miejski
- oraz Bukiet “Mały” przewidziana specjalnie dla dzieci do lat 13.
Dla zwycięzców poszczególnych kategorii przewidujemy atrakcyjne nagrody.
W trakcie przyjmowania zgłoszeń oraz pracy jury nie pozwolimy się Państwu nudzić! Na scenie będzie prezentowany specjalnie przygotowany program botaniczno-ekologiczny oraz artystyczny, w ramach którego swój koncert da zespół Gosia Markowska Band.
Imprezę poprowadzą Mieczysław Czuma oraz Leszek Mazan.
Projekt objęty honorowym patronatem Małżonki Prezydenta RP Pani Anny Komorowskiej.
