red. A.Naumow i Zespół

Kraków 2013

ISBN: 978-83-7624-035-0

A. Literally my first view of Krakow's main square and Saint Mary's Basilica (Kościół Mariacki). Like walking into a dream.

umlautblog:

Recently, I was in Krakow. It’s not everyday you get the opportunity to see a fluorescent, pissing Lenin. On show in the Krakow district of Nowa Huta, the town was originally built as an ideological communist town to house workers of the Lenin Steel Mill, which was a ‘gift’ to Poland from Stalin. Whilst the architecture of the town is grand and original in its own right, it seeps the aura of a dreary communist hangover. However, the fluorescent pissing Lenin, entitled ‘Fountain of the Future’, has been created to counteract this. He stands proud as a statement to bring some light in between the grey blocks of Nowa Huta and maintain that the rich culture of Krakow extends out into this district that is much less frequently visited by tourists.

The statue was first erected in the towns square where a huge statue of Lenin actually once stood. Although it now stands outside the Lasnia Nowa Theatre in the beer garden of the theatre’s cafe that has a trendy lo-fi feel to make any Dalston Daisy feel right at home.

Most populous metropolitan areas of Poland population density in 1 sq km grid

Katowice-Silesia and Warsaw metropolitan areas are the most populous urban areas in Poland. They are also interesting to compare, since Kraków-Silesia is very sprawled while Warsaw is more compact.
